Getting Started at Absolute Fitness

We’ve heard that many people find joining Absolute Fitness intimidating, saying things like “only athletes train there” or, “I’ll never be able to do things like that”. We understand why one might have those held beliefs, but we're here to bring this positive message: “It always seems impossible, until it’s done”. 

At Absolute Fitness we've seen many people who have never trained before reverse their destiny and do a complete 180, you’d think they’ve been training their whole lives. We know a thing or two about how to get someone in better shape, and you are no different from them! You too, can become as proficient at training like the people you see at Absolute Fitness.

So who are we and why should you listen to us?

My name is Vladimir Quijada, my brother Will Quijada and I, come from a competitive 12+ years in Martial Arts in which we’ve put in countless hours of training in the art of Muay Thai and Kickboxing, in order to prepare for competitions in the ring.

We’ve spent countless hours training in strength, running on trails, running stairs, circuit training, stretching, and of course training our techniques and skills in Muay Thai and Kickboxing. Through our years of training we have obtained a combined 4 Canadian Amateur Championship titles.

 

Ten years ago we made the transition from being competitors to becoming coaches. We’ve logged in 1000’s of hours leading, advising, and coaching hundreds of local athletes, ranging from Martial Artists, runners, swimmers, cyclists, and even straight beginners, taking their physical performance to the next level, while keeping them pain free and safe from injury. 

 

As all people who start with new training it’s going to take time and energy. But here’s some good news, you have time and energy in abundance, and we’re here to support you during the whole journey.

 

Through the years we’ve helped hundreds of people reach their fitness goals and we’ve put together a very successful roadmap for our client’s goal-achievement. We are going to share this process with you now!

 

Step 1. Set your goals, motivation, and come up with a plan. 

The best way to do this is to book in for a consultation - we’ll review your goals, why fitness is important to you, and come up with a plan to get to your goals. Don’t discount this step, it might seem unimportant, but this is what’s going to keep you going through tough times.

Without specific goals and set motivation, it becomes too easy to say things like, “I’ll do it tomorrow” or “I’ll do it later”.  We all know that tomorrow never comes. There’s a quote we really identify with here at Absolute that says: “A dream written down with a date becomes a GOAL. A GOAL broken down into steps becomes a PLAN. A PLAN backed by ACTION becomes REALITY.”

Step 2. Follow the f****n plan. 

So many people write down goals and a plan but then ignore it. Follow the plan! We’ve been through this before, we know what we’re talking about. Sometimes we want to reach the summit without having to go through the climb. Climbing is hard work, but anything worth achieving has come with some effort. This is where you undergo the transformative process of changing yourself and your lifestyle.

Fall in love with this process of learning, putting what you learn into action, and then receiving the results you earned. We’re all a little different physically, and at different points of fitness, so of course we will all have slightly different plans to reach our goals. But what we all must do is get committed to the plan and put in the disciplined work required to get to our goals. 

Step 3. Be mindful!

Show up to your workouts with an open mind. The techniques we teach you at Absolute Fitness might be different from what your familiar with. You may want to question them. It's good to question our methods and way of training, but don't be so closed minded that you disregard our training all together. Saying it doesn't work, without first doing the work and making an honest effort, only leads to failure and running around in circles.

If you want to change your life, you'll have to change what you do, and how you do it.

Find what's uncomfortable for you and work through the discomfort. Find out why it's uncomfortable and hard for your body to move in that particular way.
This way you'll be more involved, learning how to communicate with your body. Building a neurological network, or relationship, between your mind and body. 

Step 4. Don’t stop, keep going!

Where we’re from, your goals are meant to be achieved. When you connect them to your life purpose, they become something that you must accomplish rather than something that you should or could accomplish. When we reach our goals we can’t simply quit! All this guarantees is losing everything we’ve worked so hard to accomplish! This can develop negative feelings and detachment from fitness, leaving us dreaming and wishing we still had our achievements under our belts.

Instead we must continue to train, and re-evaluate, and continue to goal set. This may seem like going around in circles, which is true, but in this manner every time we go around again we will be a little stronger, fitter, and healthier than before. 

Getting fit doesn't have to be complicated. It just takes time and energy to get it done, and like I said before, the good news is we have time and energy in abundance.
